Smith’s Career Advancement Centre is an industry leader in partnering with students to successfully manage their careers during their academic studies and beyond. Smith Commerce students have the option of enrolling in our Commerce Career Education (CCE) program that is offered as part of the COMM101 academic course. In addition to COMM101 synchronous classes, students will engage in our Career Management Foundations (CMF) content - a comprehensive, self-directed, asynchronous course that covers all the critical topics of career management, including resume, networking and interviewing.
The 8 online modules help students to prepare to move their career forward and includes the following activities to support their learning:
- instructional videos
- interactive content with structured exercises
- comprehension checks
- templates, worksheets and resource documents
- access to additional external digital content
In order to earn the Commerce Career Education badge, each student must complete the following:
1. All 8 Career Management Foundations modules (each taking between 2 to 4 hours to complete all activities)
2. Achieve no less than 90% on the formative assessment at the end of each module
3. Achieve a VMock (resume assessment) target score of 85
4. Record a 90 second video responding to the key interview question, "Tell Me About Yourself"
5. Complete a coffee chat with an upper year student or alum and prepare a reflections paper (no less than 100 words)
